Greg horsed around with Julia and Katie until the pizza arrived.

Julia, Katie, Erin and Jesse went trick-or-treating in the Elmwood area. We've got lots of nice neighbors.

Julia and her best friend Katie have so much fun together. The day before Halloween 2007, they made cookies.

Julia's class at Heart's Leap school does an emerging literacy project in which the kids take turns bringing Weekend Bear home. They draw pictures and write about Weekend Bear's adventures, then share them with the class. In October 2007, it was Julia's turn. Julia took good care of Weekend Bear, including her dental hygiene.

On Saturday, Weekend Bear went to a birthday party at Caroline's house. She just loved the jumpy house.

She observed the festivities from an honored spot on the craft table.


Julia made a new outfit for Weekend Bear.

We took Weekend Bear to Lucky Goldfish in Oakland to help us pick out some new pets.

As you can tell, Weekend Bear loved the fish store. (It's one of Julia's favorite places, too.)

In September 2007, Julia's whole class - the Oak Room at Heart's Leap - walked over to our house to see Julia's fish and frogs.

Dad showed the class the hazelnuts that we found on our last camping trip.

Then we went outside and Julia told them about the three little frogs that we raised from tadpoles.

The little thought balloon above my head says, "There's some graham crackers and chocolate bars around here somewhere...." (There are at least five pictures of Julia roasting marshmallows on this blog - now it's mom's turn!)

During a camping trip to Samuel P. Taylor State Park in September 2007, we went on a short hike through the forest and noticed a few single hazelnuts in the trees. With some significant effort, Greg managed to get one down to show to Julia. Later at the campsite, Julia was wandering around and surprised us by producing a pocketful of hazelnuts. Turns out we had pitched the tent under a hazelnut tree! Greg showed Julia how to open (and eat) them.

Julia says, "That's a picture of me wading at Samuel P. Taylor" (mid-September 2007). "Next time I might take off my clothes so that the water doesn't get on them."

Julia, mom and dad went camping at Samuel P. Taylor State Park, among the redwoods in Marin County, in mid-September 2007.

Julia brought her butterfly net.

Dad cooked us a feast on the first night.

We were invited to dinner at Cousin Shannon's house in Haward in early September 2007. After a quick swim in the pool, Julia and Shannon picked tomatoes outside.


After dinner they did some art projects. (The Mediterranean feast was delicious!)

When we went to Sweetbrier in August, Cousin Tyler showed Julia how to build a big fort.

When we went to Sweetbriar in August, Mom and Julia picked a whole mess of of blackberries.

They tasted great, but the the blackberry crumble that Aunt Kathy made later was even better!

In August 2007, Julia and mom went to Sweetbriar where Cousin Tyler has a cabin on the Sacramento River (near Castle Crags). We spent a lot of time in and around the river. Julia caught some tadpoles. We brought them home and successfully raised three (out of four) into frogs.

Savanah (Kathy's neice) helped Julia navigate the rocks.

Later we floated down the river in a big inner-tube.

There was lots of stuff to collect!
