Julia and Shannon See Rock City

On the last day of our Mt. Diablo camping trip, we stopped at Rock City to explore. None of us had ever been there, but we'll definitely be back. Julia and Shannon had a terrific time camping togeter; we'll do our best to make it an annual event.

More Marshmallows

During our Mt. Diablo camping trip (June 2008), we weren't allowed to have open fires because of the fire danger. But marshmallows must be roasted, so Julia had to resort to coals.

Most of the 'mallows never made it to the s'mores (except mom's).

There must be a dozen pictures on this blog of Julia eating marshmallows on a camping trip. As my dad would have said, "You're living, Julia!"

Playing on Mt. Diablo

Julia and Shannon had lots of secret projects during our camping trip on Mt. Diablo (June 2008).

What were they up to? They won't tell....

Julia invented this neat swing, and dad helped her execute it. She had so so much fun!

Adventures on Mt. Diablo

During our camping trip on Mt. Diablo (June 2008), we hiked around the top of the mountain. There was lots to see, but it was pretty hot. Julia and Shannon took a break.

Here we are at the top, after the hike. I loved seeing all the cyclists arrive at the summit (I'm inspired to try that ride some day soon).

The girls had lots-o-fun goofing around with Greg.

Josh and Bel savor the pleasures of car camping (beer, gourmet dinners, etc.).

Mt. Diablo Camping Trip

In June 2008, we went camping on Mt. Diablo for the first time, with Cousins Shannon, Josh and Bel. It was very hot that weekend and fires were burning all over California. The view was hazy, but we found a wonderful shady campsite. Julia got busy climbing right away.

We soon discovered a family of raccoons with four babies living in the tree above our picnic table. Or did they discover us?

Josh and Bel made a rather elaborate dinner, which was totally delicious. Dessert included homemade ice cream from one of those balls that you roll around. I didn't realize how heavy those things are! The kids quickly ran out of steam and Greg and I tried to kick it around, but it wasn't easy.

Ah, the first marshmallow is the best!

Julia the Swimmer

Julia works hard at her swimming with her teacher Maureen Bettis. She can do freestyle, backstroke, and even butterfly, and she is learning breast stroke. Plus she can dive and tread water for a full minute. Go Julia!
