During our trip to Belize (February 2008), we got up very early one morning to visit Mayan ruins on the mainland. The first leg of our journey was by boat. Don't Julia and Uncle Scott look a lot alike in this picture?

We were tired, but happy.

After the boat, there was a van, airplane and another long drive in a van to our destination. Belize City was interesting and the countryside was beautiful. At the ruins we took a very small ferry across a river, then walked. Six months later (my "blogging" skills are flawed...), I'm ashamed to say that I can't remember the name of the ruins. They were impressive...and we could see Nicaragua from the top of the pyramid. Soldiers were patrolling the area, since it is apparently under dispute.

It was a hot, muggy day, but we managed to get to the top of the pyramid for some wonderful views. Uncle Scott and Julia took a break.

We were pretty nervous about Julia's safety, since there were no railings at at the top.

After the ruins we had another big adventure, cave tubing. It was a blazing hot, but the river water was cool and the caves were mysterious and beautiful. Unfortunately I forgot the waterproof camera so this part of our adventure wasn't documented. Scott gave Julia lift on the way home (van, plane, van, boat...).
