Grover Hot Springs in the snow

On Super Bowl weekend 2008, Julia and mom got out of Dodge. We left dad home with the TV and drove up to Markleeville to stay at the Creekside Lodge. It snowed throughout the day and all night! This is what our car looked like in the morning.

Julia trudged around in the snow at Creekside Lodge and built most of an igloo, while mom valiantly attempted to free the car.

The roads were cleared by mid-morning, so we drove up to Grover Hot Springs and it was open! What an amazing experience it was to sit in the 102 degree water with snow fluttering all around us.

We made it to Sorenson's Lodge in time to celebrate our friend Adrienne's birthday with Jesse and Anne.

The kids had lots-o-fun with that new-fangled toy, the snowballer. (Things were different back in my day. We had to make our own snowballs, walk barefoot in the snow with no jacket, etc...)

It was pretty cold up in the mountains, but we loved it. On the way home Julia and I stopped to see Grandma Dorothy and Grandpa John in Placerville. We got there just in time to see the last 10 minutes of the Super Bowl (the Giants won!) - mom's preferred way to watch most sporting events on TV.
